The state has also witnessed massive participation in the scheme, receiving over 5 times application vis a vis the no. of projects tendered i.e. 3,000 applications for 613 solar power projects under Components A and C.
Rajasthan has cemented its position as a leader in renewable energy with its exceptional progress under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. This initiative, aimed at promoting decentralized solar energy and empowering rural areas, has seen notable achievements in the state. Recently, Rajasthan’s efforts were recognized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with an additional allocation of 5,000 MW under PM-KUSUM Component A. Let’s delve into this inspiring journey and its implications for India’s renewable energy landscape.
Progress So Far: A Snapshot of Achievements
In a recent letter addressed to the Hon’ble Union Power Minister, Shri Prahlad Joshi, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma outlined the state’s accomplishments under the PM-KUSUM scheme:
Component A: Out of the allocated 1700 MW capacity, Rajasthan has already commissioned solar plants for 308 MW and executed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for another 294 MW.
Component C:Projects amounting to 4,547 MW have been awarded. Of these, 91 MW have been commissioned, and 1139 MW are at the tendering stage.
The state has also witnessed massive participation in the scheme, receiving over 3,000 applications for 613 solar power projects under Components A and C.
The Additional Allocation: A Testament to Rajasthan’s Potential
Recognizing Rajasthan’s capability to drive India’s energy transition, the MNRE issued an official order on January 9, 2025, approving an additional 5,000 MW under PM-KUSUM Component A. This new allocation is a significant boost for feeder-level solarization in the state and will further empower rural areas by providing clean and reliable energy.
Implications of the New Allocation
The allocation will:
Accelerate Solar Adoption: The additional capacity will enable Rajasthan to commission new projects, bringing clean energy to rural households and agricultural lands.
Boost Rural Development: Feeder-level solarization will enhance energy access and support rural electrification, fostering socio-economic growth.
Reinforce India’s Renewable Energy Goals: Rajasthan’s success will contribute significantly to India’s ambitious renewable energy targets, positioning the state as a renewable energy hub.
Commitment to Sustainability
The MNRE’s order underscores the importance of adhering to the scheme’s guidelines, including timely project completion by December 2025, regular progress reporting, and compliance with financial and operational norms. Rajasthan’s proactive approach and transparent implementation have set a benchmark for other states to emulate.
A Glimpse into the Future
With this additional allocation, Rajasthan is poised to strengthen its renewable energy footprint further. By leveraging this opportunity, the state can continue to drive innovation in clean energy, reduce its carbon footprint, and support India’s transition towards a sustainable future.
As Rajasthan harnesses its solar potential, it stands as a shining example of how decentralized solar power can transform lives, energize communities, and drive national progress.
